DRINK / DRIVE

  1. On average 3,000 people are killed or seriously injured each year in drink drive collisions.
Nearly one in six of all deaths on the road involve drivers who are over the legal alcohol limit.
  2.

  3. The legal limit of alcohol on breath allowed to drive is 35mg(3unit-two bottles of 330ml beer) per 100ml and for blood is 80mg per 100ml.
A unit of alcohol takes upto an hour and a half (1 1/2 hr) to be eliminated by the body for a woman, and one hour (1 hr) for a man.

  4. At the legal limit of 35mg per 100ml of breath, the driver is still five times the risk of being involve in an accident.
  5.

  6. Sleeping or sitting in your car with the car keys after drinking is illegal and likely to be treated as driving under the influnce of alcohol.
  7.

  8. The minimum ban from being just over the drink drive limit is one year and a fine.
  9.

  10. One unit of alcohol = half a pint of standard beer (alc 3.5% vol) or a 25ml serving of spirit (alc 40% vol) or half a 175ml glass of wine (alc 12% vol).
  11.

  12. If you're convicted of causing death by careless driving, you could face 14 years in prison, you’ll be banned from driving for at least 2 years and you’ll have to take an extended driving test.
  13.

  14. If you're in charge of a vehicle whilst over the legal limit or unfit through drink, you could face 3 months imprisonment, a ban from driving and a fine of £2,500.
  15.

  16. After serving a drink / drive conviction, you are left with a criminal record for ten years.
  17.

  18. More people get caught the morning after, this simply means that alcohol stays longer in the body than you one would think.
If you've been out drinking you may still be affected by alcohol the next day. You may feel OK, but you may still be unfit to drive or over the legal alcohol limit.
You could still lose your licence if you drive the next day when you're still over the legal alcohol level.
It's impossible to get rid of alcohol any faster. A shower, a cup of coffee or other ways of 'sobering up' will not help. It just takes time.
  19. Is not cool to drink and drive
